BC Ferries, is known for safety, and spectacular
scenery, the BC Ferry system has grown into one of the largest, most
sophisticated ferry transportation systems in the world. BC Ferries recognizes
its unique role in linking families and friends, to attracting tourists to our
many unique destinations. The crossings between Vancouver Island and B.C.'s
Lower Mainland can last from about 95 minutes to two hours, depending on which
route you take.
Shorter hops include BC Ferries service to the picturesque Gulf Islands (sailing
from both Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland), and to friendly communities
along the Sunshine Coast, northwest of Vancouver. There's also Vancouver
Island's most beautiful shortcut, between Brentwood and Mill Bay, across the
Saanich Inlet (near Victoria).

For most routes including Vancouver-Vancouver Island and Gulf Island services
(except Tsawwassen-Gulf Islands):
If you're driving onto the ferry, plan to be at the terminal at least 30 minutes
before the scheduled sailing time, and even earlier in our peak summer months or
during normally busy periods.
To avoid the long waits at the terminal I would recommend making a reservation.
This allows you priority boarding for a fee.
The terminals and ships are always busiest on holiday weekends. Peak traffic
volumes occur on Thursday and Friday afternoons and evenings, Saturday mornings
and Monday afternoons. On regular weekends, Friday and Sunday afternoons are
busy. When travelling during these periods, please allow extra time to reach
your destination. If you are visiting Vancouver Island over the summer months,
consider taking one of our weekday mid-morning sailings for a less crowded
travel experience. |
