The Pacific Undersea Gardens is truly a unique adventure for the whole family.
Located in the beautiful Inner Harbour of downtown Victoria, BC, the Pacific
Undersea Gardens provides the world with an exciting and convenient way to view
the marine life of the British Columbia coastal region.
Visitors to the lower level display area of the vessel descend 5 meters (15
feet) beneath the ocean to watch a variety of marine plants and animals. More
than 5,000 animals of different species inhabit the aquariums around the vessel
in a natural but protected environment. Through the many viewing
windows, visitors can look right into the underwater world of the Pacific
Northwest.
The specially designed tidal pond is also a fun and educational experience for
all ages, allowing visitors to gently handle some of the sea life.
Located at the far end of the 150-foot vessel is a very special theatre area.
Spacious seating provides everyone a great view from any seat in the house. A
friendly guide welcomes you into the world beneath the sea and introduces you to
one of our divers. The divers are equipped with a full-face mask with
communications so the can hear and talk to you. The guide and diver will take
you on a fully narrated journey into the deep. Creatures met along the way
include crabs, sea stars, anemones, rockfish, salmon, perch, wolf eels, and
“Armstrong” the Giant Pacific Octopus. Dive shows run throughout the day and are
about twenty minutes long, making the total tour time 45 - 60 minutes.
The tour does not have to end when the show is over because the Undersea Gardens
welcomes you to go back through the viewing areas after the show, and upstairs
to the Treasure Cove Gift Shop. The gift shop features many marine-related toys,
souvenirs, postcards, clothing and jewelry items. Exquisite ceramics, crafts,
and the relaxed, friendly environment make shopping a pleasure. We even have
snacks but don’t look for sushi here!
The Pacific Undersea Gardens is a floating vessel moored in Victoria’s Inner
Harbour across from the Parliament Buildings. The entrance gangway is located
off Belleville Street.
