Officially opened to the public in 1975, and now home to over 200 domestic
animals and birds, Maplewood Farm strives to provide a unique experience,
incorporating enjoyment, education and a recollection of the rural heritage of
this pastoral 5 acre setting. The last remaining farm on Vancouver's North
Shore.
What is there to Do and See?
This working farm offers children and adults an opportunity to meet and interact
with all the animals you would encounter on any rural farm -- from the large
residents (Belgian Draft Horses) to the smallest baby chick. Stroll around the
farm at your own pace - you could easily see it all in 30 minutes; or, take your
time and spend a little longer with the animals you and your children like best.
The goat and rabbit pen is always a big hit as it allows for petting. Along with
the corrals, the barns and the hutches, there is also a stream (with a bridge),
a duck pond and an exotic aviary. Also visit the daily cow milking at 1:15pm.
There's even a playground with swings, slides and climbing structures at the end
of the parking lot.
RABBITAT
A very popular area, Rabbitat is where kids can interact with our friendly
rabbits. It is an undercover contact area and is a great place to visit on rainy
days.
GOAT HILL GANG
Another popular contact area, goathill is where folks can meet goat kids, their
moms and other seasonal babies such as calves and lambs. Please remind children
that they are not allowed to pick up any of the goat kids.
PICNIC SHELTER
A 1500 sq. foot covered eating area is the perfect place to break for a snack or
lunch and is furnished with lots of picnic tables. This area makes a great
meeting point for groups and is a great place to leave lunches and backpacks
while visiting the rest of the farm.
MILKING DEMONSTRATION
The milking demonstration takes place daily at 1:15 pm and features either a cow
or our dairy goats. You and your group will see how milk was produced prior to
the invention of the modern milking machine and everyone is encouraged to ask
questions of the Farm Attendant about milking and all of the farm animals. We
find that the milking demonstration is a great way to teach children about where
and how we get milk.
GREENHOUSE
The Greenhouse is a tropical haven, home to many different species of plants.
This is a great place to warm up on cold and rainy days. The Farm has free
parking:
The Farm has free parking but on busy days it can fill up quickly. Additional
street parking is available just follow signage and don't block driveways.
