Opened in October 1900 as a passenger train
station, Union Station is filled with memories of a handcuffed Al
Capone, 10,000 well-wishers of FDR, three million WWII veterans passing
through on tour of duty, and a 6-million refurbishment in 1998. Built at
the height of Nashville??s social and economic growth, this classic
example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture is still a landmark in
the heart of the Music City. A 65-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling of Tiffany
stained glass, glittering gold-leaf mirrors and bas-relief sculptures
adorn the lobby area, capturing historic elegance.
Guest rooms feature hairdryer, iron and ironing board, dataport, cable
TV, and coffemaker. |
