Coquitlam Towne Centre
The Town Centre core is also a focal point for civic, cultural and educational services. The City Centre Aquatic Complex, Town Centre Stadium and Park, Evergreen Cultural Centre, Public Safety Building, Coquitlam City Hall, the David Lam campus of Douglas College, Pinetree Secondary School and the Pinetree Community Centre, can all be found in the Town Centre area.
While the Town Centre area is a thriving commercial and residential area, it also offers a direct link to nature, with hiking trails along Hoy Creek and Coquitlam River. Watching the salmon return to spawn in these watercourses is enjoyed by many, with an average of 500 people attending the "Salmon Come Home" event at Hoy Creek each fall.
Regional Town Centre qualities listed in the Livable Region Strategy include:
"A strong pedestrian orientation. Activities and facilities should be within comfortable walking distance of one another along a pleasant and interesting street-level environment. Providing good public transit service and reducing space devoted to the automobile are ways to accomplish this.
A Regional Town Centre should be alive with many different activities from morning to night. It should not be dominated by one activity like office parks or shopping centres.
Coquitlam's Town Centre is a newer, 720-hectare community. It provides a dynamic focus as the Regional Town Centre for the northeast sector of Metro Vancouver.
Coquitlam has some great Hotels with all of them being around the North Road and Lougheed Hwy area, Easy access to the Freeway and neighbouring communities make their location ideal for most events in Metro Vancouver area. The Best Western Coquitlam Inn and Executive Plaza & Conference Center are both full service Hotels that cater to conventions, Weddings and the Leisure traveler. The Ramada Inn Coquitlam and Best Western Chelsea Inn are both nearby and offer excellent accommodations with easy access to attractions and amenities nearby.
