Percy Perry Stadium
Renamed
in 2006, the stadium has also recently had the centre grass field replaced for
an excellent turf surface. Parking and access is easiest from the South-West
corner. The stadium is located within the Town Centre Park complex and is often
referred to as just Percy Stadium.Coquitlam’s Town Centre stadium is being officially renamed the “Percy Perry Stadium" in recognition of the significant contributions Percy Perry made to athletics in Coquitlam. A long-time Coquitlam resident, Perry was a pioneer and driving force behind the development of the Coquitlam Cheetah’s Track and Field Club and was the inaugural chair of the Coquitlam Field Sport Association.
The Percy Stadium is a highly used facility both by Coquitlam Residents and sports clubs from all over North America. It was recently used as a Venue for a World Cup U20 Soccer match in 2008.
Percy Perry Stadium features a 400m polyflex synthetic rubberized track surface, as well as separate areas for long jump/triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, hammer, shot put, and javelin. In February 2008, the natural turf inside the track was replaced with FieldTurf, in order to expand the number of events and tournaments that could be held at the facility throughout the year.
Percy Perry Stadium is the home of the Khalsa Sporting Club and FC Xtreme teams (both of the Pacific Coast Soccer League), the Coquitlam Cheetahs track and field club, and served as the home of the defunct Tri-City Bulldogs of the Canadian Junior Football League. The facility is the former home of the Whitecaps FC Reserves, also of the PCSL, until they went on hiatus for 2008 season.
In addition to the B.C. Summer Games, the facility also hosted the 1993 Canadian Track and Field Championships. The BC Highland Games are held on the last Saturday of every June at the stadium.
