Croc-Talk
is a five year old partnership, registered under the laws of British Columbia ,
and is based in the city of Kelowna, BC. Since its inception in 2002, the
partners have remained steadfast in their mandate of conserving the species
through education, and have created a one-of-a-kind educational show that
focuses on Crocodilians and two African Wildcats and caters to students, the
general public and visitors to the Okanagan."Although crocodilians are not indigenous to Canada , I believe it is important that education begin at home and to change our habits globally it is necessary to change the minds of our youth of today." Having a carefully planned educational program such as Croc-Talk has not only been well supported, but is something that we are very proud of as well! Croc-Talk's 'conservation through education' program is respected and supported by schools, churches, environmental and community groups, as well as local governments & politicians. On November 1, 2004, the partners were granted "Recognized Facility" status by the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO), the first designation of its kind in Canada. Because of this designation, Croc-Talk became exempt from applications of the prohibited animal bylaw #1028, and now the partners enjoy the sanctioned freedom to educate the public using live specimens. The goal of Mr. Illman and Ms. Bruce is to establish and grow the expanded Croc-Talk Centre into a world-class destination facility that provides a unique visitor experience based on conservation through education, while offering an entertaining environment that will attract local, national and international tourists and their families. Business activities currently include the provision of public and private educational presentations that showcase live crocodilians and wildcats as well as marketing the Croc-Talk jewelry line. To date, Mr. Illman and Ms. Bruce have educated over 12,000 visitors to their CrocTalk Learning Centre. ....with a perfect safety record! Our "New Location" link provides our new hours of operation, a directional map and a schedual for educational talks. So come on down anytime and enter into the World of Crocdilians! Brenda and I, and our associates are very excited about this new location and facility. Although it's a stepping stone to our major CrocTalk educational facility due to be opened in 2009, which will include sharks as well and CrocTalk's Museum of Natural History of the Crocodilian and featuring Dr. Paul Serenos's Science of the SuperCroc Exhibition. CrocTalk is proud to have the only SuperCroc skulls in Canada at their present facility. This Center will also be the only Educational Crocodilian Center in North America, and is set to become one of the largest tourist attractions in the Central Okanagan . "Mr. Illman's efforts should not only be applauded but fully supported and endorsed. As most people do not find crocodilians endearing, quite often governments do not put a strong effort into crocodilian conservation, and responsibility falls to the private stewardship endeavors such as Mr. Illman is trying to attempt. Doug Illman has clearly dedicated himself to this endeavor, and is an outstanding example of a conservationist and public educator that would make any community proud."
